Aeshnidae (Darners)
There are nine genera and 11 species of darners in Alabama and Mississippi. The nymphs are large, active insects which stalk their prey among submerged plants, sticks, roots, and other structures in still or running water. Aeshnid nymphs are usually colored in mottled shades of browns and greens.
