My name is Steve Krotzer, and I’d like to welcome you to my website, Haysop Hill Photography (my wife, Mary Jane, and I live in a tiny little place in Alabama called Haysop, and our house sits up on what passes for a hill around here, hence the name). My goal for these pages is modest; I’d like to share some photographs I’ve taken over the years of my favorite groups of insects -- odonates (dragonflies & damselflies), tiger beetles, and robber flies. The geographic scope for this website will be my home state of Alabama and its neighbor to the west, Mississippi. These two states are where I spend most of my time, and the diversity of my favorite insects around here is so great that I’ll never run out of things to photograph!

I have been studying odonate nymphs for many years, but I’ve only recently worked out a fairly straightforward, inexpensive method of achieving decent photos of them. In contrast with adult odonates, there are really not very many sources of photographs of odonate nymphs out there, either print or digital. I hope that my photos will increase the appreciation for these seldom-seen, but beautiful in their own right, creatures.

I have completed all the odonate and tiger beetle pages and hope to have the robber fly pages available soon. Check back when you can, and see what’s new!
