Found throughout both Alabama and Mississippi, more common in southern counties. Males and females similar, large, and with dark brown on upper surface of both fore and hindwings. The upper surface has two yellow bands, the top one is horizontal and passes straight across the wings. Tails on hindwings have a yellow spot. Lower surface primarily yellow with a black band that has blue and rust spots.
