SILVERY CHECKERSPOT

Chlosyne nycteis

Expected to occur in the northern 2/3 of Alabama and most of Mississippi; this species is typically found near streams and rivers.  Upper surface of wings with wide black margins and varying shades of yellow and orange basally.  Black spots within orange submarginal band of upper surface of hindwing usually have at least one spot with white at its center.  Hindwing below has cream colored median band and brown that invades the submarginal band of white crescents.  Similar Species: Pearl Crescent and Phaon Crescent
