TAWNY EMPEROR

Asterocampa clyton

Expected to occur throughout both Alabama and Mississippi, but not as common as Hackberry Emperor.  Upper surface of wings orange-brown with darker hindwing.  Has two solid dark bars along leading edge of forewing and no eyespots.  Set of two solid bars visible on lower surface of forewing and row of spots on hindwing not as distinct as in Hackberry Emperor.  Similar species: Hackberry Emperor
