Tramea onusta is a very common dragonfly west of the Mississippi River, but it is seldom encountered in Alabama or Mississippi. Its close resemblance to the much more common T. carolina may cause it to be overlooked. As with most other members of the genus, the breeding habitat is a variety of ponds, sloughs, ditches, or other lentic habitats.
