BROAD-WINGED SKIPPER

Poanes viater

Found in only a few counties in Alabama and Mississippi, flying in coastal marshes and inland areas where sedges occur.  Lower surface of hindwing with a broad, pale yellow stripe crossing through pale yellow spots.  Upper surface of wings have orange spots on a dark background; female has white spots on the forewing.  Similar species: Yehl Skipper
