BROWN ELFIN

Callophrys augustinus

Known from only one county in Mississippi and three counties in Alabama.  Ventral surface is a rich brown color that is darker at the base of the wings.  Hindwing reddish-brown along margin with no tails.  Larvae feed on Mountain Laurel in our region. Similar species:  Henry's Elfin and Frosted Elfin
