CAROLINA SATYR

Hermeuptychia sosybius

A common species that is expected to occur throughout both Alabama and Mississippi.  A small brown satyr with numerous eyespots on the underside of the wings; only one large eyespot on the forewing.  The upper surface of the wings lack eyespots.  Patterns of postmedian lines distinguish it from recently described cryptic species, Intricate Satyr.  Similar species: Little Wood-Satyr and Intricate Satyr
