ZEBRA HELICONIAN

Heliconius charithonia

Known from only three counties in Alabma (Baldwin, Escambia, and Mobile) and one county in Mississippi (Jackson).  An unmistakable species in our region with distinctive black and yellow stripes and spots on the upper surface of the wings.  The black and yellow colors are muted on the lower surface of the wings and there are basal red spots on both the fore and hindwings.
