Anax longipes

(Comet Darner)

Anax longipes is uncommonly encountered in Alabama and Mississippi, although it probably occurs statewide in both. Breeding habitat for this large, showy insect is small to medium, vegetated, usually fishless ponds, where the unmistakably colored males can be seen patrolling around the margins.
