Tetracha virginica

(Virginia Metallic Tiger Beetle)

Tetracha virginica is another widespread and common species in both Alabama and Mississippi, where it is active between late spring and early autumn. This large nocturnal, flightless species can sometimes be found in large numbers around lights at night; during the day it takes refuge under  woody debris, rocks, or other similar shelter. Larval burrows are usually found in sparsely vegetated areas with moist, clayey or sandy soils.
