BRONZE COPPER

Lycaena hyllus

Known from only one county in  Alabama (Jackson) and one county in Mississippi (Bolivar), this species is dependent upon wetland habitats and is much more common in the northern United States.  This is a large copper species with a broad orange submarginal band on the lower surface of the hindwings and extensive orange on the forewings.  The upper surface of the hindwings have an orange submarginal band on both sexes, but the forewings of females have yellow-orange blotches with smudgy dark blotches.  Similar Species: American Copper
