GEORGIA SATYR

Neonympha areolata

Possibly could occur throughout both states; however, historical records in Mississippi may contain individuals of Helicta Satyr, a cryptic species that was described as a distinct species in 1999.  Hindwing below with orange band that forms a circle around the eyespots.  Eyespots on hindwing are elongate and often have some yellow at their centers as compared to Helicta Satyr which has rounded eyespots with no yellow at the centers.  Eyespots on lower surface of forewing often absent but when present not as distinct as those in Mitchell's Satyr.  Similar species:  Helicta Satyr and Mitchell's Satyr
