Expected to occur throughout both Alabama and Mississippi in localized but variable habitats.  Flies in early spring and can often be found nectaring on Redbuds and perching on American hollies.  Ventral surface of hindwing with white at both ends of postmedian line and frosting on margins.  Ventral surface of forewing has no frosting along margins.  Hindwings have short, thick tails.  Similar species:  Brown Elfin and Frosted Elfin
