CROSSLINE SKIPPER

Polites origenes

Widespread throughout both Alabama and Mississippi.  Flies from spring to fall.  Both males and females have a uniform pale spotband on the lower surface of the hindwing and typically three spots towards the tip of the forewing.  Males have a dark stigma that tapers at the base of the wing.  This species can vary in color from orange to dark brown.  Similar species: Tawny-edged Skipper
